Pyramid Boot from Compact Flash Problem

Description

I have a Soekris 4501 and Sandisk CF card. I have formatted the compact flash card correctly (and it mount and unmounts fine) with the Pyramid OS, and I did a "dd" copy so that the Pyramid image on the CF card should be bootable, but when I fire up minicom and turn on the soekris 4501 board (I am serialed in), it boots up but then instead of giving me "metrix" and "shell" it just says "GRUB" inside minicom and gives you nowhere to go. Do I need to set a jumper? Possibly manually zero out the MBR on the CF card (there hasn't been anything but pyramid on it)? Also, I formatted the CF card using vfat, is that ok or could it be causing the problem? Any idea please, I've tried just about everything shy of going with a PXE boot...
